LeBron is Clappin back

LeBron James has finally decided not to take the high road for once. James has been getting bashed by NBA anaylist throughout his whole career. Usually LeBron barely responds to remarks made about him, but he says he is tired of it. Charles Barkley has always been super critical of Lebron and this time he pushed the king a little too far.  Barkley made some comments about Lebron while co hosting on TNT’s “Inside the NBA”.

Barkley called James “whiny” and “inappropriate” refering to the comments James made earlier this month. Lebron made some comments to the press after a string of loss games. Basically saying that the team needs another “playmaker” to have a chance at returning to the finals and winning again. Barkley feels like Lebron has everything he needs to repeat.  Barkely states, “The Cleveland Cavaliers, they have given him everything he wanted. They have the highest payroll in NBA history. He wanted J.R. Smith last summer, they paid him. He wanted [Iman] Shumpert last summer. They brought in Kyle Korver. He’s the best player in the world. Does he want all of the good players? He don’t want to compete? He is an amazing player. They’re the defending champs.” Want more on this argument? Go to http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18591231/angry-lebron-sounding-off

Chance the Rapper’s Open Mike

Monday January 31st, Chicago rap star Chance the Rapper hosted a open mic event in Cindy Pritzker Auditorium at the Harold Washington Library Center. Chance has hosted open mic events in Chicago for the youth for a while now, but it has never been this star-studded. In attendance at the open mike were Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler, Comedian Dave Chappelle, and the cast from the BET miniseries New Edition.”When I called them and told them that I had some high school, some young creatives in Chicago that needed to be around vocalists, actors, singers, dancers… and that they needed to be in this space and all these guys, without getting any money from me or anything, hopped on a flight and came out here to be in front of you guys,” Chance told the audience. This one of the most positive things going on in the city of Chicago. Chance is showing the youth that you can be successful by following your dreams. Hidden Figures wins it.

The film “Hidden Figures” won the SAG award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture Sunday night. “This film is about unity”, said an emotional Taraji P.Henson.  Henson went on to say “The shoulders of the women that we stand on are the American heroes: Katherine Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson. Without them we would not know how to reach for the stars.” This movie was a must see. Its not the usual NASA movie. This film is following three black women who were the brains behind the launch of astronaut John Glen into orbit. Hidden Figures is still in theaters; check it out before it’s too late. Chicago off to rough start.

Chicago police said that last year 51 people were murdered in January. So far in 2017, reports say at least 52 people have been murdered and about 300 people that were shot. The gun violence rates are slightly higher in the same time period than last year. Community activist Andrew Holmes said parents, preachers, and police need to do better when it comes to driving down the violence. Police also said gun arrests in Chicago in January 2017 were more than double what they were in January 2016. These type of statistics make me sick to my stomach. My city has been plagued by the violence coming from both sides of the law.
